Our Cutesie Love Story
Adam and I met in junior high at a mutual activity. I remember it was Caroling for Cans, and everyone packed into the tiny trailer was in a bad mood because of the recent snow that made our journey close to unendurable. We were supposed to be singing Christmas carols, but everyone was intent on ruining the night. We passed Rocky Mountain junior high school and I waved and said, "Hi, Mr. Saunders!" (Mr. Saunders was my all-time favorite choir teacher and even though he wasn't there at 6 pm, I always waved to my school and said hi to him) Your dad turned to me and asked if I was in choir, and when I said yes we started talking about how much we loved it and how well the other's choir did in the last choir concert. We started singing "Carol of the Bells" and tried to make the best of the cold December night. Being a year older than me, we lost contact when he went on to Fremont High School and I stayed at Rocky. We went our separate ways and didn't really think about each other. I caught up with him the next year. We would talk every day at the bus stop in the mornings and we'd talk on the walk home from school, and we quickly became friends. Around December, Adam walked me home and met my family for the first time. Everyone immediately loved the genuine and considerate boy I brought home. After that night, seeing Adam at my house became a normal, regular thing. In March of that year, the missionaries started coming over frequently. We had several friends that were investigating the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and we took it upon ourselves to be a "Missionary Family." Adam came over one night after play practice (we were in a play together, playing lovers (ironic, right?))and the missionaries were over. We had pizza for dinner and towards the end of the night, the missionaries asked us if we knew of anyone who would want to be taught. Adam, who had been very inactive for years, raised his hand and said, "Me!" That was the beginning of his returning back to the church and gaining a strong, beautiful testimony of his own. That summer was the one that changed everything. When the possibility of loosing my best friend became a reality for me when Adam desperately wanted to move to get away from immature drama with a few of our friends, I started to notice things I hadn't really noticed before. I thought about Adam differently. No matter how hard I would try and deny it, when I thought of my future, it solely involved Adam. He had become the biggest part of my life, and I had every intention of keeping there. There was something intangible and real between us, and although it took us a while to both notice and come to terms with it, it was strong. Feelings had changed--matured, even. I loved Adam, and I loved him in a different way than I had before. One warm night in August, Adam walked over to my house and borrowed me and my family van and drove to a park. We sat down on a bench, and he told me about how he felt about me. He started out saying how his cousin had told him to make a list of all the qualities he wanted in a spouse. He made a list and when he was done, he realized that I had every single one of the qualities he wanted. When he told me this I was so glad he had been the brave one...I had been feeling differently towards him and was in no way brave enough to bring it up. We both consider that the beginning of our relationship, even though we kept it a secret from most every one until December. (: The next year flew by. Every day involved Adam, and I was perfectly content with the idea of us. We were both young, but we were crazy in love and wanted to be with each other forever and ever. He popped the question in our favorite restaurant, Sonora Grill, and the rest is history. And now, here we are...two beautiful little boys and a lifetime of happiness before us.
